Before coming to Poly in 2005, Stacy Hunter P’15, Lower School Director of Technology, was an architect who enjoyed working with various CADD programs and a software engineer at a small software development firm. “What interested me then and what continues to interest me now is examining the region where design and computer science meet,” Stacy says. She teaches Grades 3 and 4 technology classes and coordinates technology integration projects starting in Nursery! Stacy’s main goal is for her students “to embrace the idea of themselves as ‘coders.’ They need not be computer scientists, per se, they just need to be able to think like one. Solving problems by breaking them into small, more manageable problems (computational thinking), peer review (beta testing), and editing (debugging) are all examples of applying the analytical skills required in computer science no matter the area of learning or interest.”
